Everything Comes and Goes
by David C. Maguire
The waves out on the ocean
Come a thousand miles
Just to crash on the shore at my feet
This sand that I am walking on
Was solid rock and once upon
A time it stood high on a mountain peak
Like the tide ebbs and flows
Everything comes and goes
There was a time
When I could stay up all night long
Then go to work and never miss a beat
I survived – I don’t know how
I hate to admit it now
Half my life’s spent trying to get some sleep
Life has its highs and lows
Everything comes and goes
No one outruns the past
The future always wins that race
Nothing lasts forever
But something always takes its place
I have lost some people
In my life who I have loved
Leaving me a heart so full of doubt
For everyone who meets their death
A newborn baby takes a breath
Is something that I finally figured out
Every time something dies something grows
Everything comes and goes
Most things are as they should be I suppose
Everything comes and goes
What’s coming around the bend no one knows
Everything comes and goes

Lucky Dog
by David C. Maguire
Here comes that dog a-walking
Walking down my street
Like he’s the king of everything
On two or on four feet
The easy life he’s living
Like he just fell off a log
Oh, lucky dog
He gets to spend his nighttime
Sleeping in your bed
He gets to lay on your porch all day
Wish that was me instead
But getting your attention
Is like walking in a fog
Oh, Lucky dog
I could wag my tail for you
I could lick your face
Honey you would see if you’d just let me
Come hang around your place
You’d never want for nothing
We’d stay high up on the hog
Oh, lucky dog

Townie Boy
by David C. Maguire
Jennie the summer's almost over
There's something I've been trying to say
For so long
But I haven't found a way
I know you'll be going back to college
I'll be just a summer memory
A townie boy
To you is all I'll ever be
But before you go
There's something I want you to know
[chorus]
I know where I belong
I'm OK with who I am
I'll probably spend my life
Making a living with my hands
I will look back on your memory
With sorrow and with joy
But I will always cherish
The summer that I was your townie boy
Jennie you don't have to say it
We both know it isn't true
And I'm the one
Who should be saying I love you
You've given me a little piece of knowing
Something I never thought I'd see
The world outside
This place and this person I must be
You can't stay I know
Kiss me softly one more time before you go
[rpt chorus]
The summer people come and call us townies
They buy trinkets from us to prove they were here
Jennie you are leaving more than memories
Taking from me more than a souvenir.
[rpt chorus]
